About Visamonkey
Why I Built Visamonkey
Hi, I'm Shree. Like many others chasing their dreams, I came to the United States from India in 2010 on an F-1 student visa. What started as an exciting journey for education has evolved into a thirteen-year adventure navigating the entire spectrum of immigration statuses - from F-1 to OPT to multiple renewals of H-1B, then through I-140, I-485, multiple renewals of EAD and Advance Parole, and now waiting in the decades-long green card backlog.
The complexity multiplies for families. When someone gets married, their spouse often comes on a dependent H-4 visa - bringing a whole new set of documents to track: spousal work permits, visa extensions, and dependent documentation. Each family member adds another layer of paperwork, deadlines, and renewals to manage. A missed deadline or misplaced document doesn't just affect one person - it impacts the entire family.
- For those of us from India, this document juggling isn't a short-term challenge. With the green card backlog stretching beyond a decade, we're looking at years of continuous renewals: H-1B visas, Employment Authorization Documents (EAD), and Advance Parole applications.
- With every company change comes a new immigration lawyer, and with each lawyer comes the same tedious process: hunting down old documents, filling out identical information across countless forms, and anxiously tracking expiration dates.
- After thirteen years of juggling spreadsheets, scanning documents, and frantically searching through emails for that one crucial file, I realized there had to be a better way. That's what inspired Visamonkey.
This isn't just another document management tool – it's a solution born from firsthand experience navigating America's complex immigration system. Every feature addresses a real pain point that immigrants face: the midnight panic of searching for an urgent document, the stress of tracking multiple expiration dates for entire families, and the tedium of entering the same information over and over again.
Visamonkey is my contribution to making the immigration journey a little smoother for others walking this path. While we can't shorten the wait times or simplify immigration policies, we can at least make the paperwork more manageable. Because sometimes, having one less thing to worry about makes all the difference in this long journey we share.
